Psychosomatic Medicine

The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at Suining Central Hospital was established in January 2015 and is among the third-grade Class-A comprehensive hospitals in Sichuan which formed psychosomatic inpatient wards early. Its predecessor is the Psychological Counseling Clinic set up in 2002. There are 15 authorized beds in the ward and 20 beds are actually open at present. The department is staffed by 10 medical professionals, among whom there is 1 chief physician, who is a vice chairman of the Society of Psychosomatic Medicine, Sichuan Medical Association, 4 psychological counselors with national certificates, and 2 staff holding master's degree. Its treatment equipment includes chronic cerebellar electrical stimulation therapeutic apparatus and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation therapeutic apparatus. The department has assumed the teaching of "Psychiatry" for the undergraduates of North Sichuan Medical College since 2008.

The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine mainly focuses on mental and psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, somatoform disorders. Since consultation-liaison psychiatry service were carried out in the hospital, many patients, who complain of body symptoms such as long-term and recurrent gastrointestinal discomfort, cardiac discomfort, chest tightness, dizziness, headache and have sought treatments in internal medicine departments but with no organic lesions being found after repeated examinations, have finally been diagnosed as anxiety and depression in our department. Their symptoms got relieved obviously after treatment. With the specialty groups of clinical medical care, physiotherapy, psychological test, psychotherapy and being patient-centered, the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine actively practices "physiological-psychological-social" medical model and provides patients afflicted by long-term psychological distress with full and quality services to help them relieve pain, restore physical and mental health, and return to the society.
